Despite good intentions, the biggest mistake many men make when it comes to buying flowers is waiting until the last minute.
Every Valentine’s Day, there are line-ups of desperate men in flower shops around the world begging for scraps and willing to take anything they can get. Or they end up at a supermarket or corner store buying half-dead daisies in cheap wrap. Absolutely do not let this happen to you!
Order the flowers early, like a week or a few days before. You can have them delivered or pick them up yourself. You’ll also get more selection, higher quality, and better service.
But here’s the really important point. Taking care of it early is a simple and easy way of putting the extra in "extra thought", and not just for Valentine's, but every time. She’ll appreciate it, and she’ll appreciate you.

Really Important: Always Go For Quality
Always go for quality when getting flowers for her. Even if all you can afford is one single rose, make sure it’s a really good one.
The quality of the flowers you give her is a statement of the quality of person you think she is. You better say the right thing.
This is another good reason for dealing with a real florist. Professional florists condition and hydrate their flowers, and keep the varities that need it in climate controlled coolers. This means that the flowers will be in the best condition possible when you buy them, and that they’ll last as long as possible after she gets them.
You also want to give her quality flowers that last. They will constantly remind her of who she got them from. Let the magic work for as long as possible.

Remember the Big 5 Occasions
Memorize this list: Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas, her birthday, and your anniversary. Now, if you carry her off to Hawaii for the weekend, you can probably skip the bouquet. But otherwise, don’t miss giving her flowers on these big 5 occasions.
Note that anniversaries may not just be about weddings. It can be any date that is somehow special to the two of you, or maybe just the one of you, namely, her. If the date of your first kiss is important for any reason, then it’s an anniversary.
Here are some further points. If you don't have kids yet, impress her on Mother's Day by sending flowers to your own mom. If it's really early in the relationship, 3 months or 6 months are milestones worth celebrating with flowers for her.

Advanced Flowers for Her: The Surprise
Yes, the big five occasions are "must wins", but to score big bonus points, consider giving her flowers for no reason at all, at times in between, just because, as a spontaneous surprise, a bouquet out of the blue. All you have to do is show up with some flowers behind your back.
There could be lots of opportunities. For example, if you have to go out of town for a while, have flowers delivered to her while you're away. Or if she goes out of town for a while, send flowers to her at her hotel. Having a gathering at your house? Bring home some flowers for her and she'll brag about you to all her friends.
Here's another one. Send her flowers at her place of work. She'll be the envy of all the girls at the office, she'll feel really special, and you'll be her wonderful guy who made it happen.
